What is bipolar ionization?
Simply put, bipolar ionization enlarges viruses and bacteria in the air, making it easier for filters to capture them.
High-voltage electrodes split apart oxygen molecules into positive and negative ions. This process—called needlepoint bipolar ionization—causes the now unstable ions to seek out other particles in the air and return them to a balanced state. As they encounter viruses, bacteria, molds, allergens, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other particulates, the unstable ions grab hold and bind to them. The resulting larger-sized molecule can be more easily trapped in the unit’s filter.
